Action "At the Science Cutting Edge" was held as a part of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. May lectures series incorporated eight lectures; two of them were delivered by the SPC RAS staff members, winners of the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) Presidential Program. At the May lecture series of the action "At the Cutting Edge of Science", the SPC RAS scientists spoke about developments capable of preventing fires, detecting man-made, biogenic and terrorist threats, protecting information systems and preventing personal data leakage.

Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Leading Researcher of the SPC RAS Laboratory of Computer Security Problems Andrey Chechulin on May 17 presented a lecture "How and what for to protect any microwave from hackers". The lecture attendees learned the answers to main questions concerning the information security like: "what is being attacked, what for, who, in what way and how can we possibly protect ourselves". Alexey Kashevnik, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the ITMO Information Technologies and Software Engineering Faculty, Senior Researcher of SPC RAS , on May 31 delivered a lecture: "How artificial intelligence helps to improve the humans' lives quality". The attendees learned about the scientists’ development of an application for drivers allowing for staying concentrated while driving, as well as what advanced computer vision technologies exist.
