In the materials of the daily newspaper "Izvestia", a paper was published regarding the problem of the Russian village revival and the State role in it; in the publication Yulia Nikulina, a staff member of IAERD – SPC RAS, raised the issues of unemployment and the income level of the rural population:

"The share of agricultural employment in rural areas is steadily declining: in 2010-2020 — from 26 to 20%. For comparison: the share of people employed in agriculture in developed countries: 11% - in the EU, 5% - in the US. Agriculture is no longer the main source of employment and income in rural areas, pointed out Yulia Nikulina, senior researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics and Rural Development of SPC RAS. Therefore, the diversification of sources of income and the development of alternative (non-agricultural) employment become critically important for the development of rural areas. The issues of unemployment and income levels are also related to the labor market. The unemployment rate in rural areas of Russia is almost twice as high as in cities (8% compared to 5%), and about 1/5 of rural residents receive an income below the subsistence minimum. Poverty is a significant obstacle to rural development."
