St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPC RAS) has signed a cooperation agreement with Kaliningrad State Technical University (KSTU) and agreement of accession to the National Fisheries Research and Education Consortium (established under the auspices of Federal Agency for Fishery (Rosrybolovstvo). As part of the Consortium, the Center will participate in digitalization projects, as well as in training of highly qualified personnel for the Russian fishing industry. The agreement was signed by Andrey Ronzhin, the Director SPC RAS, and Oksana Ogiy, First Vice-Rector of KSTU, in the presence of Sergey Yakhnyuk, the State Duma Deputy, a member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The National Fisheries Research and Education Consortium was established on September 28, 2020, and included main educational institutions of Rosrybolovstvo - the Fishing Collective Farm named after V.I.Lenin (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) and the company Rybflot FOR (Kaliningrad). Today, the Consortium unites various fisheries enterprises, institutions and associations all over Russia. The association operates with the support of Rosrybolovstvo; KSTU is the project coordinator. The purpose of the consortium is to consolidate efforts of the organizations - participants in training of highly qualified personnel and introduction of new technologies in the fisheries complex of the Russian Federation.
"We have joined the National Consortium, whose activities are aimed at the development of the country's fisheries sector. Within this cooperation SPC RAS is responsible for implementing the task of digital modernization of the country's fisheries. Today, the fisheries complex is ready for large-scale changes in terms of digitalization of organizational and technological processes, and the latest information, and analytical tools developed at the Center can possibly be applied here," said Andrey Ronzhin, the Director of SPC RAS. Besides, SPC RAS will participate in the development of educational programs aimed at training of highly qualified specialists in Computer Science, who are in demand in the fishing and fish farming.
Scientists of the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center can offer various digital solutions to the Consortium participants, for example, in the areas of monitoring, forecasting, proactive management, logistics of feed supply, as well as in automatic control of closed-loop systems for breeding fry of various fish species.
"We are already working in this direction in the North-West of Russia with the company "Lafor", engaged in fish breeding. Jointly with the above company we plan to restore our Limnological base at the Red Lake (Leningrad region) and launch a Scientific and Educational Center that will be developing the closed water supply systems for breeding fry of various fish species," explained Andrey Ronzhin.
Within the Agreement, it is also planned to participate in the joint activities of KSTU and SPC RAS under the Strategic Academic Leadership Program "Priorities 2030" announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. In the planned work, SPC RAS will take a responsibility of the research area related to digitalization and robotization of fisheries.
