From August 12 to September 4, 2021, the chief researchers of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Environmental Management of the Arctic at the N-W CIRPFM - SPC of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences Laishev K.A. and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Yuzhakov A.A. went on an expedition to Kamchatka and reached the Ust-kHarizovo settlement, namely, the reindeer husbandry of JSC "Revival of Reindeer Husbandry Development" located there. The expedition objective was to find out the causes of animal deaths, as well as to collect biological material for genetic, helminthological and microbiological studies.

In a result of the expedition, the researchers got acquainted with the peculiarities of reindeer husbandry technology in the South of the Kamchatka Krai, participated in the corral work and animals slaughter, selected biological material for further research and development of scientific basis for quality and safety management of products in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, while accounting for the limitations of agro-climatic and environmental risks.

To solve the problem of animals’ mortality and prevent its further occurrence, the Chief Researchers attended a meeting with Vyacheslav Pavlovich Chernysh, the Minister of Agriculture of the Kamchatka Krai, where among other issues, they discussed the prospects for possible joint work in reindeer herding farms of the region.
