Within the collective stand of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation at the AGRORUS exhibition, the SPC RAS staff members Marina Astapova, Jan Puhalsky presented an agrobox prototype with a function for determining a growth stage of lettuce based on machine vision and neural networks., Research results received based on the collected data corpus showed that the segmentation of lettuce plants using the NDVI index allows for identifying such characteristics of seed lettuce as the square occupied by plants, the height of an individual plant, the number of plants with the accuracy of up to 95%.
"During the agricultural production, it is required to promptly make over 50 different managerial decisions to optimize the raising process, though they can be digitalized. For example, the monitoring complex will allow for an online monitoring of growth and development, the reaction of plants to illumination changes (when using adaptive lighting systems) and nutrition, and predicting of marketable products toutput, might be possible to reduce the illumination time, and, consequently, the costs" explained Marina Astapova, Junior Researcher.
As a part of the VIP tour over the exhibition, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Leningrad Region - Chairman of the Committee for Agro-Industrial and Fisheries Complex Oleg Malashchenko visited the SPC RAS stand.
In 2023, the AGRORUS exhibition was visited by over 6,300 people, 143 stands from 36 regions of Russia were presented by agricultural companies, at that over 40 events were held as part of the business program.
