St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPC RAS), St. Petersburg State University and Sberbank have opened a master's program for training specialists in the field of artificial intelligence, particularly, for a development of intelligent transport infrastructure management systems in the Arctic. Already the first year students, within the proposed program will be involved in real research and production projects of SPC RAS and Sberbank.
Proper agreement was signed on November 23 by Marina Lavrikova, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of St. Petersburg State University, and Andrey Ocheretny, Director of the Center for Academic Partnerships of Sberbank. The Program Leader is Maxim Abramov, head of the Laboratory for theoretical and interdisciplinary computer science of SPC RAS , Associate professor of the Department for Informatics of SPBU.
"In the course of study, students can choose a special block of disciplines proposed by the Program – "Artificial Intelligence for the Arctic region", focused on training professionals in the field of applying artificial intelligence technologies and intelligent information systems to solving problems arising in the Arctic territories of the Russian Federation. The program is positioned as a platform where communication between the Masters’ Program students and industry representatives is established,” Maxim Abramov notes.
According to Maxim Abramov, the key distinctiveness of the program is the students’ participation in various real industrial interdisciplinary projects of SPC RAS (like, students will participate in the project "digital assistant" for logisticians of marine cargo transportation Cargotime) and Sberbank.
"The objective of the Master's program in “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science” is to equip students with the knowledge necessary to solve real—world problems in the dynamic and constantly evolving field of artificial intelligence. We strive to create an atmosphere encouraging students' interest in studying various fields related to artificial intelligence,” tells Maxim Abramov.
Training courses cover: Data Science, image processing algorithms, computer vision technologies, machine learning applications, AI technologies in Arctic research, as well as intelligent transport infrastructure management systems in the Arctic and other areas.
It is expected that 40 places will be allocated for the Program students, including 30 ones at the State budget expense.
