St. Petersburg leading daily business newspaper “Delovoy Petersburg” (St. Petersburg Business) served as a platform for the discussion. The journalists proposed the experts to discuss the artificial intelligence (AI) future in Russia, particularly, how technologies of the kind will change the country and business, what professionals will be highly demanded by the market and what  spheres of activity will be mostly subjected to AI influence.

Round table was held online on December 13. Three employees of the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPC RAS) joined the discussion: Maxim Abramov, head of the Laboratory for theoretical and interdisciplinary computer science, Andrey Chechulin, head of the International Center for Digital Criminology, and Lidiya Vitkova, senior researcher at the Laboratory of computer security problems.

Main aspects of the discussion:

  • AI impact of the Russian business and isolation of the areas of its most active implementation;
  • advantages and disadvantages of AI implementation in various spheres of economics and business;
  • what sectors of the Russian economy are expected to be modified by AI in the next decade and what technologies can possibly facilitate this;
  • AI impact on the Russian labor market in the future, and what skills will demanded in this regard;
  • roles of the state, the business community and society as a whole in ensuring the sustainable and effective development of AI in Russia;
  • possibility for keeping a balance between the artificial intelligence introduction and the human factor preservation in the country's business.
