Within the scientific event, over 200 participants from Russia and Belarus discussed the past and present of limnology, a science studying the lakes and other freshwater reservoirs.
All-Russian Scientific Conference "Limnology in Russia" took place in St. Petersburg from February 12 -14 and turned out to be one of significant events held as a part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Conference organizers were: the Institute of Limnology of the Russian Academy of Sciences - a separate structural division of SPC RAS, the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Geographical Society. This event corresponds to the objectives of the "Decade of Science and Technology 2022-2031". The conference was held in face-to-face and remote formats.
Main topics of the conference agenda included general problems of limnology and applied research, hydrobiological and ichthyological studies of lakes, chemistry of water and sediments of lakes, paleolimnological studies, current climate changes and hydrological processes in large lakes, modeling of hydrological and biogeochemical processes in lakes.
124 presentations were delivered at the Conference, including 91 face-to-face, 9 remote and 24 poster ones. Over 200 representatives of scientific, educational and government institutions from 18 cities of Russia and Belarus attended the event.
Conference was also timed to the 80th Anniversary of the Institute of Limnology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Special greeting in regard to the Anniversary of the Institute were received from the Department of Coordination of Scientific organizations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Committee on Science of the Higher School of St. Petersburg and other institutions.
